I have two products I use when cleaning my stylus.  I first use an ordinary white Magic Eraser.  When cut into 1″ x 1″ squares you can lower you tonearm down on it quite easily.  Only use the pure white ME because the blue variety have soap in them and are not good for your stylus.  The ME when looked at under a microscope has millions of small sharp fingers that pull dirt and grime off of your stylus.

This method alone does a great job cleaning,  but when the Onzow Zerodust is used in combination of this is works very well.  I like to use the Onzow just to make sure that none of the ME particles remain on my stylus.  When used together these two products can greatly imporove sound quality and increase the life of your stylus.

Pro’s and Con’s of using a Magic Eraser to clean your stylus

Pro’s

Cheap!

Easy to do and only takes a few seconds before each play

Con’s

Can leave some small fibers behind on the stylus (easily remedied with use of the Onzow Zerodust)

After you clean your stulus treat yourself to some new vinyl!

  1. great, thanks for the advice. I actually had a magic eraser before to clean the walls and it was amazing. I didn’t realise about the other uses. I just read via your link on amazon that is also cleans shoes, glass tables etc etc… I’d never heard of the Onzow one though. I will have to try the combo, I’ve not used these products on my stylus and I’ve been neglecting cleaning it!

    1. Magic Erasers are excellent in so many ways! I happened upon this method when I was looking for an economical dry cleaning method for my stylus. I was so happy that I could use something that I already had around the house. I hope you are able to try out the Onzow Zerodust. It really is a great product that is worth the investment. Just be careful when lowering your tonearm to touch the stylus to the Onzow’s cleaning surface. I accidently put just a teeny bit too much pressure on mine and it bent my stylus. I was lucky that I was planning on replacing my M97xe stylus within a couple weeks anyway. Other than that little hiccup I have never had a cleaner stylus. If you do end up trying this method leave me a reply about how it worked for you. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. Have a great day!

  2. Hello and thank you so much for your article. I have really struggled with looking for the right tools to clean my stylus.
This is actually my first time hearing about Magic Eraser and Onzow Zerodust and I can’t wait to try them. Thanks again and keep up the good work.
